Arriving at Newcastle United in a €3.5m deal from Palermo in the summer, Achraf Lazaar hasn’t been playing regularly under Rafael Benitez.
Newcastle are currently at the top of the standings in the Championship, and it makes sense for Benitez to not tweak his starting XI.
The Moroccan defender had the option to sign for Fiorentina in the summer, but the chance of signing for an English club was something he couldn’t turn down.
Lazaar has been speaking to Italian website Tutto Mercato Web, and it seems he is quite positive about his situation at Newcastle.
He said: “I’m fine with the group, and at the club. We are winning so much and you know: Never change a winning team, so I’m finding little space as a professional and I try to show my qualities. I know what I’m worth and where I can get.”
The 24-year-old also admitted he had heard of interest from few teams, but he is more than happy at Newcastle.
He added: “But me no. I’m good at Newcastle. I’ve heard of some teams, I’m glad. But I’m happy here and I want to be a leader.”
Lazaar also reiterated his dream to sign for an English club, and has no regrets on not signing for Fiorentina. The former Palermo star has managed just 21 minutes of league football this season, but has featured quite regularly in cup competitions.
It must be noted Lazaar isn’t eligible to play for a third club this season, even on loan, as he already featured for Palermo in the Coppa Italia before signing for Newcastle.
