Newcastle United’s Matt Targett is not on Anderlecht’s list of options this month, with suggestions he is being rubbished in Belgium.
La Dernière Heure provide the dismissal today, via Voetbal Primeur, reporting that Anderlecht have no interest in the Newcastle defender.
They explain that while Targett has been linked to the Belgian club in the last few days, there is no substance to the idea.
While the 29-year-old may have found himself on the fringes at St James Park and be keen to move on to find minutes elsewhere, Anderlecht are not interested in offering them.
They may currently be without Moussa N’Diaye, who is out through injury, but there is no immediate plans to sign another left back. They are instead focusing their efforts on finding a centre-back.
Thus, the Newcastle United man is not on their list. This is backed up by journalist Romain van der Pluym, who posted on his account on X that ‘Matt Targett (Newcastle) is not an Anderlecht target’.
So, Newcastle fans can put that exit rumour on the backburner, or indeed in the bin as far as the press in Belgium are concerned. Targett may be moving on this month, but it won’t be to Anderlecht.
