Given all the claims around Miguel Almirón’s future in recent months, and how some of those claims have contradicted, it would be no surprise if the player himself isn’t exactly sure where he’ll be this time next year.
The 30-year-old has a Newcastle United contract lasting until June 2026, and it’s thought the Magpies wouldn’t be against seeing him leave before then.
Almirón has made 10 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side so far this season but he’s been picking up substitute cameos and those appearances average at around 30 minutes each.
A return to South America has long been rumoured to be on the cards, and there’s even been some recent hope from fans in Paraguay that he could move back to his home country.
However, journalist Hernán Castillo has moved to dampen those hopes… at least for the near to medium term. He reports the Newcastle United player has a plan for the rest of his career, and that a Paraguay return will only be the third step.
Soy del Millo quote Castillo as saying: “Before returning to Paraguay, Almirón will want to play for River, but now he wants to continue playing for a while longer in Europe. It is impossible for him to come.”
River Plate have been continually linked with Almirón, although even they may have to wait a while if Castillo is correct.
