Newcastle United’s search for a new striker in the winter market came to an end when they took Chris Wood from Burnley.
The Magpies handled a few other options and among them was Torino’s Andrea Belotti, before signing Wood.
Last month, we relayed various claims made in the Italian press the Tyneside club have made an ‘important offer’ to the 28-year-old, but he wanted to finish the season with the Serie A side.
The Magpies are still looking at the player, this time for the summer window. According to Calciomercato, Eddie Howe’s side and Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal have each proposed a salary of ‘around €7/8m a season’.
However, the Italy international has ‘already rejected’ these two clubs because he has his heart set on join AC Milan.
The Rossoneri currently have Zlatan Ibrahimović, 40, and Olivier Giroud, 35, leading their attack. Therefore, they are looking at a new striker in the summer and Belotti can be a ‘tempting’ option.
However, Milan must first sort out the situation with Ibrahimović since the Swede wants to stay at the San Siro beyond this season. It is difficult for Stefano Pioli’s side to guarantee the former Manchester United player a starting role, should he continue with them.
If Milan decide not to make an approach for Belotti, Newcastle could present themselves as a better option than Al Hilal.
