Following the recent links between Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr, we now get to see Newcastle United being brought into this story.

It all started this week with a report from Marca, who talked about an ‘agreement’ with the Saudi side for a deal until 2024 and a salary worth €200m a year, split between wages and advertising deals related to the country.

Many Portuguese newspapers are today covering the news and even confirming that the offer exists. And Correio da Manhã add a small paragraph about the possibility of Ronaldo joining Newcastle.

The outlet writes that the Magpies ‘do not fit the equation’, and the problem is the lack of a spot in the Champions League.

Correio da Manhã writes that despite having links through ownership to Al-Nassr, Newcastle would depend on the income from the European tournament to cover his salary.

Of course, in no circumstance would Newcastle pay €200m a year, with that having to come from Saudi advertising deals.

Although this sounds far fetched, Jorge Mendes trying such a plan would be believable. It’s long been said Ronaldo is concerned Lionel Messi will overtake his Champions League goalscoring record, and that’s why he reportedly wanted a move in the summer.

Either way, the Portuguese media take Al-Nassr’s offer very seriously, claiming Ronaldo shall take a decision after the World Cup.
