Whether Newcastle United need a new right-back is up for debate, but considering the fact Steve Bruce has rotated unconvincingly between Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo for a good chunk of the season, perhaps it’s something the manager is thinking about.

Foot Mercato in France reckon that’s the case, with one player in particular catching the former Manchester United defender’s eye in Southamtpon’s Yan Valery.

The right-back is currently on loan at Birmingham City, but once he returns to St Mary’s, he could find himself at the centre of a three-way battle for his services.

According to the French website, both Newcastle United and Borussia Mönchengladbach are following Valery’s situation ‘very closely’, with Marseille also seriously considering a move in the summer.

We’ll have to wait and see if anyone takes the first step, but regardless of the fact the defender was sent away n loan from Southampton, his stock on the transfer market hasn’t really dipped, making a move away from St Mary’s looking more and more likely.
