Newcastle United continue with their efforts in the transfer market, and want to further improve Eddie Howe’s defence.
The Magpies have conceded 42 goals in the Premier League so far this season, across 19 matches, and no side have seen the ball in the back of their net more.
Should Howe be able to steer Newcastle away from relegation to the Championship, and all the issues that would bring, then he simply needs to improve the defence further.
Kieran Trippier has already arrived from Atletico Madrid, and he’ll being some experience and quality with him, however, there’s surely going to be more.
RMC take a look at the Sven Botman situation, and say Newcastle have made ‘several offers’ to Lille for the player, with the most recent said to be worth €35m.
Lille, for the moment, are resisting, despite the English club being ‘very urgent’ in their pursuit.
It’s explained that given the Ligue 1 club have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, and sold Jonathan Ikoné to Fiorentina for €15m, they don’t have the financial pressure they would have otherwise been under.
That allows them to resist Newcastle, but surely another offer a little higher could change things.
