In recent years, Juventus have made a habit of building themselves transfer problems for the future. They’ve signed players on protracted loans, pushing the cost of a full transfer down the road, and added free agents on salaries so high they’re hard to then get rid of.

Alvaro Morata is an issue they’re facing this summer, and Newcastle United have been dragged into the picture as a solution.

The striker returned to Juventus in September 2020, on a two year loan from Atletico Madrid, with a buying option of €35m.

Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Spaniard has already cost Juve €20m for the two year loan, and they want to negotiate the €35m downwards. There’s the possibility they could use Moise Kean in a deal, with him being another loan-to-purchase problem, this time from Everton.

However, Atletico are now looking around for other clubs interested in Morata, and it’s claimed Newcastle United have made initial contact over the potential signing.

Arsenal and Barcelona have also been linked.

Whether Eddie Howe is genuinely interested in Morata remains to be seen, because with Newcastle right now there’s always the possibility of them being dragged into situations for added drama.
