Newcastle United did not find an agreement with Flamengo for the transfer of Matheus França in the winter market.
Coluna do Fla have a report on the work carried out by the Magpies in January, and also their plans to sign the 18-year-old in the summer.
After seeing their first offer of €16m rejected, Newcastle came up with a new bid. The Brazilian club turned it down. On deadline day, Eddie Howe’s side returned with a third proposal of €20m and even this was rejected.
Flamengo were clear the attacking midfielder will be sold only if their request of €25m is fulfilled. Newcastle have been the ‘most interested’ team in França but failed to meet the South American club’s demands.
The Tyneside club’s ‘dream’ to sign the player has been postponed at least until the end of this season. The report states Newcastle will not be alone as Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in França.
Coluna do Fla don’t mention whether or not Flamengo will continue to demand €25m for França later in the summer.
