Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Lille’s Sven Botman were the main targets for Newcastle United in the winter market, to further bolster their defence.
The Magpies have seen their offers turned down, and Sevilla’s sporting director, Monchi, confirmed the proposals didn’t please his club. In addition to this, Julen Lopetegui’s side are also not considering letting the Brazilian leave in January.
The situation with Carlos has seen the Tyneside club look at other options and they have now shifted their focus to Jeremiah St. Juste.
According to Sky Deutschland, Eddie Howe’s side are ‘interested’ in the Mainz 05 player.
It’s claimed ‘talks between the two clubs are underway’, but whether they will reach an agreement for the centre-back’s transfer this month is ‘still completely open’.
The Bundesliga side, for their part, are ‘ready to talk’, to let the 25-year-old leave in the last few days of the window. Sky state Newcastle will have to submit an offer of around €15m to sign St. Juste.
If Newcastle are really keen to bring the player to St James’ Park, then they need to act fast and submit a €15m bid before the window closes on Monday.
