Newcastle United continue to be linked with big name players since Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund completed the purchase of the Premier League side earlier this month.
Nabil Fekir was on the Magpies agenda even before Mike Ashely sold the club. Last week, reports from Spain stated that Real Betis ‘fear’ the Tyneside club could come back for their star after trying to sign him in the past.
The midfielder has given an interview to Betis TV, where he was directly quizzed about the recent reports of the English club’s interest in him.
“I don’t think about the offers. I am very happy here. I am learning every day and I hope it can continue like this. The fans love me, it gives me a lot of joy and I want to give it back to them on the pitch,” Fekir said.
“You never know in football, but the truth is that now I don’t think about offers. I’m at Betis and I’m very happy here.”
The France international even admitted he will hold talks with the La Liga side over a new deal. Despite publicly stating he is happy with his current employer, reports of Newcastle wanting the 28-year-old doesn’t seem to go away.
Foot Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis has now taken to Twitter to state there is a ‘real possibility’ the player extends his contract at Real Betis. His current deal expires in 2023.
However, ‘behind the scenes’, contacts have already been established with Newcastle’s new management.
As of now, it will be ‘very premature’ to say that Fekir will end up at St James’ Park, but Denis claims Newcastle’s ‘interest is real’.
