Former Newcastle United star Jonas Gutierrez is on the verge of returning to Argentina, according to claims in the Italian media. Earlier today there were reports Serie A sides Chievo Verona and Cagliari were interested in the 33-year-old.
The winger made 17 appearances for the Spanish side last season, but wasn’t given the option to extend his contract with the club. This will come as a blow to Chievo and Cagliari who were both looking to move in on the player.
Gutierrez spent 7 seasons at Newcastle United after signing from Mallorca, making nearly 200 league appearances for the North East club. Newcastle United fans took the South American to their hearts, and supported the player through his battle with cancer, thrilled to see him return to wear their colours.
