Newcastle United are still very much in the picture to sign Raphinha from Barcelona, despite failing with an attempt during the last summer window.

The Blaugrana were tempted to sell in the last market, despite only having signed the player from Leeds United the season before.

Raphinha had been an absolute star for Leeds United but didn’t manage to recreate the same level at the Camp Nou, and criticism quickly grew.

Even when the Brazilian has been going through good form, it’s often felt like some in the Catalan media, and around the club itself, just don’t value him enough and continually wait for a drop in form so they can have a snipe again.

Catalan newspaper Sport report Raphinha will be watched closely between now and the end of the season, and if he doesn’t smash it then offers will be evaluated in the summer.

It’s thought to be ‘very likely’ that those offers will arrive, and that’s when Newcastle United get a mention, with Magpies interest still very much in place. Chelsea are also thought to be keen.

Raphinha himself is happy at Barcelona, seemingly oblivious to the harsh evaluation he often gets. That said, if Barca want to sell and get an offer to please them, the Brazilian will be encouraged to leave.
