Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic could be getting further competition at Newcastle United, as Rafael Benitez looks to add to his St James’ Park squad.
Turin newspaper Tuttosport claim in their Saturday edition that Josef Martinez is currently choosing whether to join Newcastle United or Hamburg.
Martinez’s current club Torino are not against a sale as Martinez leaving would free a place up in their squad for someone else to come in.
A Venezuela international, the 23 year old is right footed and as well as playing upfront can also operate on the left.
Tuttosport don’t say how much Newcastle United would be required to pay for Martinez, who has a contract with Torino until June 2018.
Hamburg are currently in the Bundesliga relegation places, so although the German club are in a top division there’s every chance Newcastle would be a more attractive prospect.
Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle are well placed to achieve promotion back to the Premier League, and would likely be able to offer better wages than Hamburg.
