Newcastle United are set to have a very good chance to sign Ousmane Diomande from Sporting.

Portuguese newspaper Record today writes that as the Lions want to make one big sale this summer, the centre-back is ‘on top of the list’, and they’re willing to negotiate some good conditions for his transfer.

It’s said that even though Diomande is protected by an €80m release clause, Sporting are demanding just €60m, and that amount can actually be reached via bonus payments.

Newcastle are once again named as one of the contenders. Record claims that the Magpies, as well as Chelsea and Juventus, are all interested, although none of them have placed bids so far.

Diomande reportedly has the dream of going to a ‘more competitive league’, and would like to ‘join a top Premier League club’, so we’ll be another one in favour of this operation.

We must say this isn’t the first story from the Portuguese media saying Sporting want to sell the centre-back. It’s clear they’re pushing for his exit, partly because he wasn’t great in the second half of the season. And in case Newcastle are actually still interested, it wouldn’t be a shock if they manage to pay even less than what is being said.
