At this point, it’s not too unreasonable to suggest that even Rafael Benitez doesn’t know whether he’ll be Newcastle United manager next year.

Renewal talks have been ongoing for a while, with the Spaniard wanting assurances that there’ll be investment to make the club competitive next season. Without that, then an exit is very much on the cards, with Benitez’s contract expiring at the end of the current season.

Benitez has been linked with a move to Ligue 1, and there have been claims from France that he’s appointed agents in the country to act for him if there’s an opportunity of a role there.

For Newcastle, several options have been mentioned, and now Jurgen Klinsmann has been brought into the picture.

France Football claim the former Tottenham Hotspur star is a ‘priority’ option for Newcastle, although they believe a move to Hertha Berlin could be likelier.

Given the last time he managed a club was ten years ago, the links may not go down very well.
