Thursday’s edition of A Bola has defender António Silva splashed across the front page after claims from Italy of serious interest building at Juventus, and there’s quite a major Newcastle United mention.
The 21-year-old has a contract with Benfica lasting until June 2027 and came through the youth system at the Lisbon club.
A Bola want to make the point, presumably on behalf of Benfica, that Silva will not be sold in the January window. Juventus are looking to make an addition due to being hit by injury worries, and Silva has been one of the major options put forward by the Italian media.
To underline Benfica’s stance, A Bola state Newcastle United made a €35m offer during the summer window. That offer from Eddie Howe’s side included a further €15m in potential bonuses on top of the €35m.
That, say A Bola, was rejected and shows how serious Benfica are with their stance over the youngster.
Silva has a release clause standing at €100m, however, he’ll be negotiated for less in the summer should clubs come forward to sign him.
An opportunity at that point for Newcastle United, should they still be interested. That €35m plus €15m may well be enough at the time, depending on how this season goes and what the competition want to pay.
