Whilst much of the Newcastle United attention right now is on who the Magpies could sign before the January window closes, there’s still news emerging which could impact the Magpies’ business in the summer market.
To make sure they can have a big summer, the club need to secure survival, as their transfer options will be very different if they find themselves dropping down to the Championship.
Niklas Sule is one of the summer options that Newcastle have been repeatedly linked with in recent months. The central defender’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of June, and that gives the opportunity for a free-agent transfer.
Kicker reports that should Sule not accept the latest renewal offer from Bayern, then it’s likely the club will leave things there, rather than trying to negotiate a better deal to convince their player.
That’s partly because they could look towards free-agent options themselves at the end of the season, with the Chelsea pair of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen seen as potential signings.
Newcastle are the only club named by Kicker, and it’s likely their huge finances would be a temptation for Sule in the summer, as long as they stay in the Premier League.
