Victor Osimhen has scored 16 goals and added five assists this season. He’s only played 27 matches for Napoli so far in the current campaign, which is largely down to a serious cheekbone fracture he suffered in November.

His statistics are still excellent and there’s been repeat claims of interest from the Premier League.

Newcastle United were linked in the January window, and since then claims have emerged that the Magpies offered around €100m but were turned down. This is questionable, mainly because of the amount, and it’s something which has happened before with Napoli, when there were claims of an offer higher than €100m from Manchester United for Kalidou Koulibaly.

Similar to the situation with the defender, it felt like an effort to hype the value.

Nevertheless, Newcastle continue to be linked, and Il Mattino, a Naples newspaper, says they’re ‘certainly’ in the picture for the signing. No European football would be a negative for the club, but it’s thought they have the liquidity to carry out the operation.

Arsenal and Manchester United are also credited with interest.

Il Mattino carry quotes from agent Andrea D’Amico, who helped organise Osimhen’s move from Lille. He’s been speaking to Italian radio and pushed the suggested price even higher: “If a very important offer arrives, he goes away. But this is true for every player who plays in Italy.

“At the moment I have no requests from the Premier League, but it is early, it is a situation that remains evolving. England remains a top tier market. When I speak of an important and indispensable offer for Osimhen, I mean offers of €150m.”

Such a figure seems ridiculous, despite the 23-year-old’s obvious talent. He’s not considered one of the very best players in the world right now, and €150m is certainly pushing it.
