Newcastle United are interested in Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa but would have to pay €60m to lure him away from Porto.
That’s according to Jornal de Noticias and A Bola, who both cover the reported interest from the Magpies today.
Newcastle are expected to be busy spending their wealth this summer, with a big splurge in the transfer window expected to completely revitalise Eddie Howe’s squad.
They’ve been linked with new players in pretty much every position, and reports in England have now seen Costa brought into the mix as a potential replacement for Martin Dubravka.
Jornal de Noticias back these up, stating that Newcastle are one of those ‘interested’ in the goalkeeper this summer.
However, they make it clear that Porto don’t want to lose him if they can avoid it, with manager Sérgio Conceição hoping to have two goalkeepers of the same level competing for the first choice spot next season.
They make it clear that it might not be possible for Porto to resist a ‘millionaire offer’, but they don’t make clear what price would be needed.
A Bola do, however, stating that Costa would only leave for a fee close to the €60m release clause in his current contract.
That’s a big price to pay, even for Newcastle, and so Porto aren’t too concerned at this moment in time, remaining ‘absolutely quiet’ despite the noise surrounding their player.
