Following rumours this week claiming that Newcastle United are interested in Benfica defender Antonio Silva, the Portuguese media today shows up to quickly dismiss that story.
It’s in a very short article that newspaper O Jogo writes that it’s nearly impossible that the Magpies will get the 19-year-old signed in the final days of the window.
The outlet writes that despite recent stories from Italy and England about the interest, no offers from Newcastle arrived at Benfica yet.
Actually, even the Magpies’ interest is said to be seen as ‘highly unlikely’, because Benfica would demand €100m to let Silva move at this stage.
It’s well known that the defender is seen as one of the biggest gems in the Eagles’ squad, and they would always demand a big fee to sell him.
Now, as we enter the final days of the window, they won’t even bother negotiating and would only let him go if his release clause is triggered.
Silva has been linked to several big clubs in the past few months, and if Newcastle really want him, they better get in line for a potential transfer in 2024.
