Newcastle United have been thrown in the apparent developing race for Talleres de Córdoba winger Ramón Sosa, with it claimed they’ve also shown an interest in him.
Journalist Hernán Castillo, via Extra, throws Newcastle into the mix today amid claims that Chelsea are set to move for the 24-year-old.
The journalist reported yesterday that the Blues were showing an interest in the winger ahead of the summer but provided little details at the time.
It was later explained that the Argentine side had prepared themselves for a $20m sale because of the apparent interest from Stamford Bridge, indicating that their may be interest in him.
It’s not the first time Sosa has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with his agent insisting that Everton had been in contact all the way back in January.
Castillo has now provided further details on the matter, insisting that Newcastle are also potentially in the mix.
“I also know that Newcastle was interested, but the first one to make some progress is the people from Chelsea,” Extra report him saying to Fútbol a lo Grande.
“I don’t think it’s advanced, I don’t think it’s anything yet because the Premier League is still to finish this weekend, but it’s at least more than sounded out, to put it that way. It’s not just a talk that took place, but there have already been a couple of talks.”
Castillo also adds that should Newcastle or any other European side make their move, they will find Sosa open to it.
According to his information, the player recently rejected proposals from Boca Juniors and River Plate, who had both been in contact with his representatives, because he wants to make the move to Europe.
That potentially gives Newcastle their opportunity to get him, and he may be a name to keep an eye on moving forwards.
