Newcastle United are ‘seriously’ thinking about a move for Jose Mourinho in the summer, with ‘doubts’ over his future at the Italian club.
Mourinho has endured a difficult first year in charge of the Serie A side, who currently sit seventh in the table and 15 points behind league leaders AC Milan.
There have been regular rumours about a potential managerial change in the summer, with some fans already calling for Mourinho’s head.
That’s seen Newcastle brought into the picture, with it felt they could target a big-name manager in the summer should they manage to stay in the Premier League.
They’re currently finding their feet under Eddie Howe, but he was not the first choice to replace Steve Bruce in the first place, and there is a growing sense that could lead those in charge at St James Park to replace him with someone more high profile in the summer.
Mourinho would fit the bill, and according to journalist Maurizio Catalani, there is a real possibility the move could happen.
“If Roma don’t make a fair and important purchase campaign, I have my doubts that Mourinho will stay at Roma,” he told Giallorossi.net.
“He won’t stay here and take four goals from Verona. I know that Newcastle, who have an unlimited budget and are currently the richest club in the world, are thinking seriously about him.
“Roma, on the other hand, are a team that has big flaws and with which it is difficult to build a game: it’s not good for him, but it’s not good for many other coaches…
“That Mourinho will stay in June, I have big doubts…”
