For the past few days, reports from Spain have stated Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Valencia’s Javi Guerra.
On Monday, Marca reported the Magpies ‘stalk’ the 20-year-old and will continue to keep close tabs on him. A day later, Sport talked about Newcastle taking an interest in the midfielder who has excelled for Los Ches this season.
Journalist Toni Hernández, writing in his column for Deporte Valenciano, explains that the Newcastle target could leave the Mestalla in the upcoming windows.
He says the Spanish club are ‘rubbing their hands with the transfer of Javi Guerra’ as it’s now ‘evident’ that several clubs have the player on their radar, and the list will only grow if he continues to impress this season.
The Spain U21 international has a deal lasting until 2027 and it includes a €100m release clause. Despite having a high clause, Hernández believes it doesn’t guarantee Guerra’s long-term stay with his current employer.
‘Does that ensure that he’s going to stay here? No, not at all, in any case,’ he said.
Earlier this week, Valencia manager Rubén Baraja urged the player to be calm amid the latest reports of interest from Newcastle and others. The journalist has also advised the player monitored by Newcastle to focus on the activities on the pitch rather than off it.
‘Javi must be left alone, let him play football, let him have fun, let him make mistakes, let him grow. If it continues like this, May will be tough like few other times in history, but it’s still September, so be very calm,’ the journalist said.
Hernández has also urged Valencia to offer the player a new deal to make him feel loved and not because of the fear of losing him. If not, they may see Guerra moving to another club, like Newcastle.
