As Newcastle United prepare their first game under Eddie Howe during this international break, the club will also have an eye on the January window.
Reinforcements are expected to come in in the coming months to give the Magpies a chance of staying up and avoiding relegation to the Championship, but who those players could be remains a mystery.
Over in Italy, however, there are plenty of ideas being thrown around, with the latest being that Newcastle could go after two players from the same team, according to L’Arena, relayed by TuttoHellasVerona.
Those are Giovanni Simeone and Antonin Barak, who are both stars of the show at Hellas Verona this season.
The Argentine, who already has five caps and a goal for his country, has found the back of the net nine times in 11 appearances in Serie A, while the Czech Republic international has four goals and two assists to his name.
While Simeone is currently on loan from Cagliari, Verona have a €12m option to buy him if they desire, and it’s clear that if Newcastle came knocking, they would trigger that in order to make a profit.
As for Barak, the newspaper claim he would cost around the €25m mark, making the price for the pair a minimum of €40m, since you can expect the club to want to make more than a €3m profit (€15m) for the Atlético Madrid manager’s son.
This would certainly all be affordable for the newly rich Newcastle, and we highly doubt that Verona would be in a position to refuse such an amount of money, even in January, should it be presented to them.
