Since July of last year, we have seen Newcastle United linked with a move for Angelo Gabriel, a young forward currently at Santos.
Seen as one of their biggest talents since Neymar, the 18-year-old became the youngest player to make his debut in the Braasilerão aged 15, and that turned a few heads.
More and more European clubs are looking directly at Brazil to sign talents, like Real Madrid have done with Endrick, Vinicus Jr. and Rodrygo, and Newcastle seem to want to follow that path.
It was reported that the Magpies had already made a bid for Angelo back in November, and were pushing to get a deal done.
That hasn’t happened just yet, but a recent claim suggested they were ready to invest money in the youngster, who gave an interview to TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy following links to Milan and Napoli.
Asked about his future, he said: “Today, I want to focus on Santos, then tomorrow, who knows… It’s clear that I would very much like to play in the most prestigious stadiums in Europe. I can already imagine myself at the Santiago Bernabéu, San Siro, Camp Nou, Parc des Princes…
“I dream of playing in the Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, the Premier League, Ligue 1: How could I deny that? To get there, however, I know I still have a long way to go.”
While St James’ Park wasn’t on his list of stadiums there, he did say he dreams of playing in England, as well as many other countries, and with Newcastle currently in fine form and vying for a Champions League spot, he could end up travelling to some rather big arenas going forward.
We now have to wait and see if Eddie Howe and his staff decide to make a move sooner or later.
