The Portuguese media continue to name Newcastle United as one of the main contenders for the signing of Ousmane Diomande, and we get to see another mention to the Magpies today.
That comes from Record, who have a story on the Global Soccer Awards’ nominees.
Diomane is running for the Emerging Player award, and that could be quite an achievement for the 19-year-old who just recently made his international debut for the Ivory Coast.
Record writes that Diomande is very much wanted by Premier League clubs, ‘especially’ Arsenal and Newcastle, and he ‘could see his price rise’ up in case he wins the award.
The outlet adds that Sporting are currently in talks to give him a new contract. He’s currently protected with a deal until 2027, but they’d undoubtedly want to raise his current €80m release clause.
The word in Portugal has been that the Lions want to keep the player at least until the end of the season, and are unlikely to negotiate him in the winter window.
That means Newcastle would need a very convincing offer to get him signed now, and in case of they decide to wait, they could also end up seeing his price and the competition increase.
