Following the news that Federico Chiesa could leave Juventus this summer after falling out of favour under Max Allegri, Newcastle United have been touted as a potential landing spot.
The idea the Italian could one day move to the Premier League has been a long-running one, but his affinity for his home country always appeared to stop that.
Corriere dello Sport, however, believe that might have changed, with it stated that Newcastle are ‘thinking’ about making a move for the forward, who ‘would accept new challenges’.
The Magpies are one of a few clubs interested in Chiesa’s services, alongside Bayern Munich and Chelsea, and it’s explained the player ‘would like to find a path without tears’ away from Juventus.
They do know it would be hard to find a club willing to pay €40m and offer him a contract of €6-7m, but there’s hope the ‘good relationship’ between Newcastle and the player’s entourage could help.
As things stand, a move to Bavaria ‘remains at the top of the preferences’ put forward by Chiesa, but that doesn’t mean Newcastle are out of the race.
Unlike Chelsea, for example, they can offer Champions League football, and, let’s be honest, there wouldn’t be much of a change when it comes to the colours of the shirt either.
We’re just messing there, but the main point to take away from all this is Chiesa is happy to leave, and this could be the best opportunity for any club previously wanting him to finally get their hands on the Italian.
