Newcastle United are in talks for the signing of Corinthians midfielder Ederson, according to reports from the Brazilian media.

Website Meu Timão writes that negotiations between the clubs are on, and the transfer could happen before the end of the transfer window.

It’s said Newcastle made ‘direct contact’ for the move, and are currently negotiating a permanent signing, with no price set yet.

Meu Timão says there’s a chance of a loan deal with an obligatory buying clause, which would make things easier for the Magpies to comply with Financial Fair Play, but the priority is really for a purchase now.

Corinthians have been spending a lot on big signings such as Willian, Renato Augusto and Roger Guedes through the past few weeks, so selling to the European market would be quite interesting. Especially because Ederson has been on loan at Fortaleza, where he’s been doing pretty well since the start of the year.

Newcastle’s interest in Ederson was first reported at the start of the month. At that time, his agent said he was worth about €10m.
