Newcastle United ‘take a close interest’ in Rennes star Gaëtan Laborde, according to reports coming out of France.
The 27-year-old was in demand in the last window before he ended up joining the Ligue 1 side from Montpellier on deadline day of the summer market.
Since arriving at Rennes, the striker has managed 11 goals and two assists in 17 matches in all competitions. His ‘breathtaking’ displays have resulted in English clubs once again courting him.
That’s according to Homme Du Match, who explain the Magpies are among the clubs to have taken an interest in the player.
It’s claimed the Tyneside club ‘would like to integrate’ Laborde to their new project at St James’ Park. In order to secure his services, Eddie Howe’s side could ‘double the amount’ Rennes paid to Montpellier to acquire the frontman’s services.
Laborde’s contract runs down in 2025. As per the claims, the French club will consider selling the attacker if they were to receive a ‘non-refusable’ offer. What figure would make it tempting for Rennes isn’t mentioned in the report.
