As far as the transfer market goes, talented yet affordable full-backs are hard to come by, especially if you’re a Ligue 1 team looking for a quick solution when one of your players wants to leave.
With Diego Contento looking for a way out at Bordeaux, the French side have apparently turned to Jordan Amavi, with a loan form Aston Villa being touted, yet they might end up two left-backs short.
According to SFR Sport in France, three English clubs have been making regular trips to the south of France to watch Maxime Poundjé play, and two of them are Newcastle and Sunderland.
The northern duo are apparently very keen on the 24-year-old left-back, who is currently close to fully recovering from an injury that has left him out of the past two games, and both Rafa Benitez and David Moyes have sent scouts multiple times to Bordeaux’s stadium to watch him play.
Considering Poundjé has only made six appearances this season, there’s not a lot to go on, but both sides appear convinced that he is the right man for them.
