Newcastle United are showing a ‘very strong’ interest in signing Moussa Diaby this summer, but his price is ‘skyrocketing’ thanks to his performances at Bayer Leverkusen.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who insist that Newcastle are likely to be among the Frenchman’s suitors in the summer transfer window.
They explain that after recent reports linking the forward with various clubs around Europe, including Newcastle, they have been doing various enquiries to try and discover more information.
What they have learned is that while the interest from the Magpies and other Premier League clubs is ‘very strong’, with an unnamed side in the top 10 also showing interest, it is not true that former club PSG are looking to muscle in.
As far as they are aware, he is not in their plans for next season as his characteristics do not fit the profile of player that Luis Campos and his team are looking for.
A return to his former home is not on the cards but that doesn’t mean a transfer is ruled out altogether, with his status as a European talent undeniable and plenty of clubs interested.
Newcastle are among them, but they will need to convince Leverkusen, who have the player locked into a deal until June 2025, into a sale.
Their current desire is to keep him, although they accept this summer will be the last chance to sell him for a ‘high price’ and so will take offers under consideration.
They know the 23-year-old’s price is ‘skyrocketing’ and it is quite possible that one of those interested would spend more than €50m to secure his signature.
Such a figure would be attractive to the Germans, and they will not close the door to it entirely.
