While Newcastle continue to try and sign a new striker, Rafa Benitez is still looking to strengthen elsewhere, with the wings an area of interest.

Said to be after now Lille forward Nicolas Pépé, the attention soon turned to Saint-Etienne’s Jonathan Bamba (around June) when the Ivory Coast international decided to stay in Ligue 1.

Reported to have bid for the 21-year-old as early as June, Newcastle then proceeded to look elsewhere, but But! in France seem to think they might not be done just yet.

The French website explain that both the Geordies and FC Sevilla are supervising Bamba, and could still make a move if a move to Angers, where he went on loan in January, doesn’t happen.

But! also state that, after scoring the first goal of Saint-Etienne’s season, Bamba could also use this interest to get a new contract at Saint-Etienne.

The young forward also managed to also help out with an assist last weekend against Caen, and could quickly become a key figure in Oscar Garcia’s side if his form keeps up.

Newcastle might want to make a move soonish if they are indeed intent on bringing him to St James’ Park.
