While Newcastle United, should they stay up, will want to spend the cash this summer and show the world they aren’t to be messed with on the transfer market, they will also likely want to save a few pennies here and there if they can.

With so many names available on a free in the coming months if they don’t renew at their respective clubs, the Magpies could bring in some serious talent while only affecting their wage budget, and Boubacar Kamara could be among those.

They would have to be convincing, however, since Foot Mercato explain that Atlético Madrid are currently ‘clearly in pole position’ to sign the defensive midfielder.

Diego Simeone is said to have given the green light for the Marseille star to arrive in the summer, and an alleged ‘verbal agreement exists’ between the two parties.

The good news for Newcastle, though, is that ‘nothing has been signed yet’, meaning they still stand a chance.

Foot Mercato explain Eddie Howe’s side ‘still believe’ in their chances of convincing Kamara to move to the north of England, having already tried last summer in the dying days of the summer transfer window, to no avail.

Kamara had decided to reject the likes of Newcastle and Wolverhampton Wanderers to play in the Europa League, also hoping he would get the renewal offer he wanted from his childhood club, which hasn’t arrived to date.
