With Newcastle United’s win over Chelsea at the weekend, Magpies star Joelinton finally found redemption following a trouble international break.
The midfielder had only played nine minutes for Brazil, as he got on the pitch at the end of the match against Argentina and got sent off in a very controversial decision from the referee.
Following Newcastle’s match against Chelsea, Joelinton was interviewed by Globo Esporte, and talked about beating that frustration by finding such a great win with the Magpies.
“That goal was very important. I helped the team beat a strong opponent, but I was also able to vent my frustration at being unfairly sent off against Argentina,” said Joelinton.
“It was a very important day for me and my family. My parents, wife and children travelled to experience this momentous event up close. And what happened, the way it happened, really upset me. But that’s part of the job. Thank God I turned it around straight away and today I leave the stadium very happy, as do my family and all the Newcastle fans. That was eating me up.”
That was Joelinton’s first goal of the season with Newcastle, which can now be added to the three assists he has in 14 appearances so far.
The midfielder continues to be an important man in Eddie Howe’s side, despite having a couple of injuries which sidelined for a few weeks back at the start of the season.
Newcastle currently stand in 7th in the Premier League table, with 23 points after 13 matches.
They now prepare for the Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain in France, and that result is likely to decide whether the Magpies still have a chance of getting to the knock-out stage.
