Italian outlet Calciomercato today highlights Newcastle United’s interest in AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez.
The outlet writes that the Magpies showed ‘a first concrete interest’ in signing the Brazilian, who could actually be on his way out of the Giallorossi this summer.
It’s said Roma spent €8m plus bonuses to sign him from Atalanta in January 2020, and could now more than triple that investment.
That’s why club director Thiago Pinto set a price of €30m for his sale.
Newcastle should just be aware that they have some competition for the signing coming from the Premier League, since Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested, with Antonio Conte keeping an eye on the player for a while.
It’s worth pointing out that Ibanez has been a very regular player for Roma, which means they’re not letting him go if the offers aren’t convincing enough.
Therefore, Newcastle will have to work to match those demands, or it’s unlikely the Italian side will facilitate a deal.
