Despite still being in the dark regarding Rafa Benitez’s future at the club, Newcastle keep doing their job on the transfer market, looking at players who could help bolster the squad next season.
At least, that’s what Calciomercato.it seem to suggest on Friday afternoon, claiming the Magpies are one of two clubs to have shown ‘concrete interest’ in Udinese’s Seko Fofana.
The Ivory Coast international was a key member of the Serie A side last year, making 31 appearances in the league all the while scoring two goals and assisting teammates four times, and a return to England could be on the cards for the 24-year-old.
Spending three years with at Manchester City following a move from Lorient in France, Fofana enjoyed two loan spells at Bastia and Fulham before being sold to the Italian club back in 2016.
Calciomercato.it believe Udinese value their asset at around €15m, making him a rather affordable target for Newcastle should they decide to act on their interest.
However, it remains to be seen how much money the Premier League side will have at their disposal this summer, currently in the middle of a takeover, which, should it happen, could lead them to aim a little higher than the Fofana.
