AC Milan’s team manager Andrea Romeo is leaving the Italian club to join Sandro Tonali’s personal team at Newcastle United instead.
That’s according to La Repubblica, who say that Romeo is set to reunite with Tonali in the North East following his ‘controversial’ move to St James Park.
The newspaper reports that the former referee has left his post at Milan, which he’s held since 2017, to make the move to England and help the Newcastle player.
The plan is for him to be ‘integrated’ into the backroom team at the club under Eddie Howe, focusing on Tonali and helping the player to integrate himself properly in the north of England.
Whether he will be solely focused on Tonali, who he obviously knows well from their time at Milan or will work with other players down the line also isn’t made clear. For now, it appears he is being hired simply to ease Tonali’s transition to life at Newcastle.
What Milan think of Romeo’s departure isn’t made clear, although it’s probably fair to say they’re sick of the sight of Newcastle this summer.
Having already taken Tonali away from them, something Repubblica twice label ‘controversial’, it seems they’re now taking their team manager as well.
