It’s been a couple of weeks since Newcastle United’s interest in Marcelo Brozovic started being reported, and unlike some rumours which showed up with the club’s takeover, this one continues to be followed by the Italian media.

Today an update comes from Calciomercato, who writes that the Magpies’ chase for the Inter Milan midfielder is ‘serious’.

Since Brozovic’s contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of the season, all Newcastle would have to do is convince him to sign a contract with them next summer.

That’s why they’re now said to be ‘ready to offer him’ a salary of €7m per season. That way he’d be persuaded not to renew his deal with Inter Milan.

That’s a very short story brought by Calciomercato, so there aren’t any details on how convinced Brozovic is about joining Newcastle, or if there’s any chance he’ll stay at Inter, but previous reports did suggest his preferred option would be to stay at the San Siro.

Besides Newcastle, other Premier League sides such as Chelsea and Liverpool have recently been linked to the player as well, and his free agent situation should only draw more pretenders.
