Earlier on Friday, we covered an article in Il Tempo suggesting that Newcastle United were after a right-back, having enquired about AS Roma’s Bruno Peres.

With Javier Manquillo, DeAndre Yedlin, and (an albeit injured) Jesus Gamez, you’d think Rafa Benitez was covered at the position, but the aforementioned questions to the Serie A side suggested otherwise.

Now we have further confirmation Newcastle are indeed looking to strengthen that area of their squad, as Calciomercato report they made an attempt to sign Juventus loanee Pol Lirola.

Currently at Sassuolo until the end of the season, the Spaniard is getting all the game time he needs, and the Turin side are not interested in letting him go, wanting him to finish his loan.

The Italian website claim Juventus had the chance of cashing in around €10m for the 20-year-old, but their belief that he’ll develop into a player worth keeping around in order to make an even bigger profit meant they didn’t hesitate to reject Newcastle’s offer.

Onto the next one for the Magpies, it seems.
