Kiko Casilla was Keylor Navas’ deputy at Real Madrid until last season as he became the third choice goalkeeper for Los Blancos following the arrival of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea in the summer.

The 32-year-old has not made any appearances for the Champions League winners in any competitions this season and Spanish outlet El Gol Digital claims the La Liga giants have informed their player to look for a new club in January.

The claims state Rafael Benitez is keen on signing the shot stopper for Newcastle United and it’s also claimed Real Sociedad will have a role to play in the operation involving Casilla.

The Spanish side are not interested in signing the Real Madrid custodian, but they have other plans as they are ready to offer their own goalkeeper, Gerónimo Rulli, to the Tyneside club.

El Gol Digital mentions the Premier League outfit views the addition of the Argentine better than signing Casilla, despite Benitez’s intention to bring the ex-Espanyol man to St James’ Park.

It’s because Rulli will cost less than the Newcastle manager’s compatriot, but with Martin Dúbravka firmly between the sticks for the club, spending anything on another keeper probably isn’t high up the list.

Disagreement between Benitez and the Newcastle board on any signing isn’t a surprise, but for a goalkeeper this one may be harder to believe.
