As outlet Calciomercato today analyses the transfer window made by Atalanta, they look back at an attempt made by Newcastle United to sign one of their players.
It turns out it’s not Robin Gosens we’re talking about, as the wing-back ended up completing a move to Inter Milan, but the Magpies’ target is actually said to be Duvan Zapata.
According to Calciomercato, Atalanta managed to have ‘armoured’ the striker, ‘at least for the moment’.
It’s said Newcastle made an offer for a loan, for which they’d pay £5m, and then an obligation to buy at £18m in case they confirmed their stay in the Premier League.
The story claims Atalanta president Antonio Percassi responded with a ‘dry no’, who’s more likely to ‘cash in’ with Zapata’s departure in June.
The striker has 12 goals and seven assists in 22 appearances for the Serie A this season, and depending how the next few months go, he could definitely be worth more in the summer.
