Newcastle United are being seriously linked with Jan Carlos Hurtado in South America, as interest in the footballer grows.
The 19 year old Venezuelan currently plays for Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima in Argentina’s top division.
La Provincia have taken claims from the Telam news agency to detail interest from several clubs.
Serie A high-flyers Atalanta are said to have sent emissaries to Argentina with the intention of making contact with Hurtado himself, and also those who represent the youngster.
The next claim is that Newcastle representatives ‘also approached the office which represents the player’. Their interest is presented as serious, and it’s claimed the Premier League club have the ‘intention of making a concrete offer’.
These claims are said to come from a source at Hurtado’s club.
Marseille and Boca Juniors have also been presented as keen, although it doesn’t appear their interest has gone anywhere or is regarded as seriously as that from Newcastle and Atalanta.
Before going much further, Newcastle would surely have to see how Hurtado stands with regards to a work permit, unless he has an EU passport.
