Newcastle United have set their sights on Lille defender Tiago Djaló, according to a report from France.
The 22-year-old is a product of Sporting’s academy and moved to AC Milan in January 2019. Without making an appearance, he left the Rossomeri for the Ligue 1 side later that year. He has been a regular for Lille since the start of last season, making 43 league starts.
Djaló’s progress at the French club has seen him draw attention from Newcastle, so much so that they are considering signing him in the winter market.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who state the Magpies are interested in the Portuguese centre-back. His contract lasts until 2024 and Eddie Howe’s side are ‘ready to offer’ a fee in excess of €20m to take him away from Lille in the next few days.
Foot Mercato point out the Ligue 1 side have already seen three players leave the club in this window. After Newcastle showed interest in Djaló, the report adds a fourth exit ‘could be expected’ at Lille.
The Tyneside club need to act quickly if they wish to secure Djaló’s services in January.
