Following the success that has been Sven Botman, Newcastle United appear to be ready to head back to Lille for more defensive reinforcements.
That’s according to Inter Live, who claim that while Inter are very interested in Tiago Djaló and even met with the Portuguese defender’s agent recently, the Magpies are the ‘most formidable’ competition.
Newcastle are reportedly ‘interested in the central defender’, and would be ‘ready to offer a cheque of over €20m’ to sign him from the Ligue 1 side.
It’s then added that Inter appear to have the upper hand, having already reached a ‘semi-agreement’ with the player, but they are ‘unable to pay what was requested’ by the French club.
If it does, that’s because it’s pretty much exactly what happened with Botman, with the Italian media convinced the player wanted to head to Milan, putting off a move to Newcastle, only for Lille to hold off because they knew the Magpies could give them more money.
In the end, that’s exactly what the Premier League club did, and their Serie A counterparts could only kick themselves at being unable to financially compete, as the Dutchman headed to St James’ Park, where he has quickly become a fan favourite with his performances.
It’s also added by Inter Live that the Italian club have called the player’s agent to try and get him to help and lower the asking price, but if the Botman story is anything to go by, that’s not something Lille will be willing to do.
