Newcastle United have ‘reached an agreement’ for the signing of Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, according to reports from France.
Foot Mercato writes that the clubs have an agreement to make the move for €36m plus €10m in ‘easily attainable’ bonuses.
The outlet claims their information comes from ‘sources close to the English club’, who say the transfer is ‘on track’. It’s also pointed out that are still ‘few small details’ to be sorted.
Ekitike, who scored 11 goals and made five assists in 27 appearances for Reims this season, is currently out with France’s U20 squad, and might have to ‘quickly pack his bags’ to join the Premier League side.
Ekitike’s season with Reims was enough for him to be heavily mentioned in the rumour mill, with the links with Newcastle being on since the January window.
Now with the Magpies looking close to completing the deal, they probably did a good job by avoiding the competition from the rest of the summer market.
