Logan Costa, at one point, seemed close to joining Bologna, with Premier League links just seen as pressure being on the Italian club. There was talk of interest from Newcastle United and West Ham too, and at one it was said to have distracted the player.
Even though Newcastle never made a concrete move for the defender, their name found a regular presence whenever Costa’s name was mentioned.
Somehow, the Magpies have impacted the situation without even directly making an offer.
Il Resto del Carlino, as relayed by TuttoBolognaWeb, report Bologna have informed Costa’s club Toulouse that negotiations have now ended.
The reason for that, it is mentioned, is Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side were interested in Costa and their involvement had led to Toulouse’s asking price rising to €19m.
The Magpies then moved on to other potential targets but due to their interest, Toulouse’s valuation remained high. And Bologna, despite having an agreement over personal terms with the defender, failed to agree a transfer fee.
Newcastle essentially acted as a ‘spoke in the wheel’ and now Bologna will also move towards other targets.
