Newcastle United have become the latest English club to be drawn into the mix for Marco Asensio.
AS on Thursday explain the Magpies ‘want’ the Real Madrid player to be the ‘cornerstone of their new project’ next season.
The winger’s contract expires in less than 12 months and he’s not received a renewal offer from the La Liga winners so far.
Asensio has three choices and those are either to sign a new deal with Los Blancos or make a move elsewhere this summer. The third possibility is to stay at the club for one more season and leave them as a free agent in 2023.
The fact the Spain international has no renewal proposal on the table can ‘speed up the process’ of making a move away from Real Madrid. He has several offers to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s side, but the club that ‘push the most’ to sign him is said to be Newcastle.
Asensio wants to represent Spain at the Qatar World Cup. His agent, Jorge Mendes, wants to find a club for his client that can fulfil his sporting aspirations and also the economic needs.
AS’ title reads: ‘Newcastle bet on Asensio’. However, there is no mention within the report if the Magpies plan to make any offer to Real Madrid to secure the player’s signature soon.
