Bruno Guimarães has consistantly impressed for Newcastle United since joining them from Lyon in January 2022.

In October 2023, the Magpies rewarded the midfielder with a new contract until 2028, and it reportedly includes a high release clause.

Last month, UOL stated Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a fan of the 27-year-old. They also stated the Citizens have started initial efforts to sign the Newcastle star in the summer window but find his €100m clause to be high.

Earlier this month, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola reported Guimarães is plan B for Al-Hilal if they fail to sign Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes.

Amid all these clubs, Eddie Howe’s side are keen to hold on to the Brazil international. That’s according to journalist Valentin Furlan, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide a short update.

He says the Premier League club have no plans to sell the player in the summer window and are ‘preparing a fierce battle’ to retain him. Newcastle, as per Furlan, want to extend Guimarães’ contract and have opened talks for the renewal.

Furlan makes no mention of the details of the deal Newcastle plan to offer or whether they will be successful in their efforts.
