Newcastle United bolstered their defence in the winter market by signing Kieran Trippier from Atlético Madrid.

After the right-back’s arrival at St James’ Park, the Tyneside club are focusing on bringing in a centre-back and also a left-back.

Sassuolo’s Rogério and Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker have been pushed forward as the targets for the left-back position. Two days ago, we covered claims made in Italy that stated the Magpies are struggling to get deals over the line for the duo.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Layvin Kurzawa has now emerged as a target for Eddie Howe’s side, according to Foot Mercato.

The 29-year-old has made only one appearance for the Ligue 1 side and has been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season.

The report says it is ‘more than likely’ that the Premier League could be the fullback’s new home before the window closes on Monday. He is ‘tracked’ by Newcastle and it’s claimed the English club would like to offer Kurzawa the possibility of a move.

Apart from Newcastle, West Ham United are also in the picture to sign the PSG player. It is now down to Kurzawa whether to accept one of these two clubs on the last day of the January window.
